Street Shooting…some prime action

I recently spent a day out with a good friend attempting to capture some of the scenes from the streets of Sydney. What better a day to try this than Boxing Day when everyone is out and about trying to bag a bargain in the many department stores downtown. As an added bonus, mother nature provided us with the gift of rain, I am still undecided as this was to our advantage, or our disadvantage.

Neither of us can claim to be well equipped for street shooting, both of us using fairly large DSLR’s, but I kept my trusty D300 gripless and choose to mate this with the trusty AF-D 50mm f/1.8 and kept my treasured AI 135mm f/2.8 handy for some length.

Here are a few images from the day, as always those denoted with a “_1″ have been post processed.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from Scout-Images + recent pics + gear status

Firstly I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas (or commercial holiday if your inclined to call it that) and a Happy New Year. I hope that you all will have a happy, safe and relaxing break over this holiday period. I have had a very busy lead up into this period and will be looking to take a bit of break over this period, however I will be try continue to post updates.

I have done an evaluation of my current arsenal (details here, locations here) and am quite pleased to say that despite the foul luck I have had over this year, I have come into the holiday period with few casualties. My Nikon D300 comes into this period in pretty good shape having just been serviced, finally fixing the LCD issue, save for a damaged viewfinder eyecup (DK-23) for which a replacement has been ordered.  The only other stand out’s are my Tamron SP 17-50mm f/2.8 (Model A16N) which is still awaiting the arrival of a replacement DA09 lenshood, to replace my damaged one.

Sadly, my Fujifilm FinePix F100fd is now listed as MIA (Missing In Action) as its current location is uncertain. I really hope it is found soon, otherwise I will be tracking down another to replace it (to keep my WP-FXF100 useful otherwise I will be out for another underwater casing).

Finally, I thought I would share some of my recent images taken whilst out with some friends at night.

Pretending to be a Canon user, new pics

It has been a busy few days for me, with Christmas coming up I have been working more in my retail day job but this has not meant that I have not been able to find time to pursue my photographic interests.

Firstly, I wanted to share some photos that were taken over the last few days, whilst heading into the city and USYD at night and then Mittagong the following day.

After this I swapped a lot of my Nikon gear for some Canon gear (refer here for the status of my kit including loan gear) to brush up on my Canon usage in preparation for some workshops requested by some Canon users. So I was out and about with a 400D and some lenses today.

Taronga Zoo…Pandas, Snow Leopards, Tigers, Elephants and Birds

I headed off to Taronga Zoo yesterday, taking with me my D300, 70-200VR and for the first time my Tamron 70-300mm. Another first for me was watching the free flight bird show. Here are some of the photos that I took on the day, but click through to the full gallery to view all the stars of the show. I managed to get some nice pictures of my favourite snow leopard.

Mt Wellington Panos

Just thought I would share two panorama’s that I made whilst I was up on Mt Wellington. These 12 image stitches were made with my baby D60 and the Nikkor AF-S 24-70mm f/2.8.
