Phottix Geo One
I have acquired an example of the Phottix Geo One unit (very similar to the Nikon GP-1). This means I will be posting some thoughts on this gadget in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!

Just thought I would share my experiences with Nikon’s repair department. My D300 is currently out of action with a LCD screen that is displaying strange colour degradation. I dropped off the camera at Nikon’s repair department yesterday morning and have since received a quotation…it looks like it will cost me $340 to get the screen replaced and hopefully this will get to the bottom of the problem. Kudos to Nikon for getting me a quote so quickly though.
I have spent the last few days at PMA over at the Sydney Convention Centre, I just thought I would share a few of my experiences. I have to admit that this was my first PMA and I spent a lot of it working at a stall so this is what I saw and not really an accurate representation of the show.
For the record I was helping out at the hottest stall in the show….PHOTTIX!!!!!
What did I see:
Nikon
To celebrate 50 years of Nikon F, Nikon put up a pretty good show. Nikon brought along quite a show with a nice set up of long lenses as well as an arsenal of stock for people to try. I had my trusty D300′s sensor cleaned and made sure I visited the low light shooting room. Nikon also put on quite a few public talks with guest speakers including Jason Boland. I didnt notice anything new at their stall though.
Canon
I only had a quick once over of the Canon stall, but I did notice that they had a painted model and lenses for loan as well as a large showcase of their printers.
Fujifilm
I have to admit that Fuji was showcasing some very interesting stuff. As well as their current line up and some new printing and photo kiosks they had an interesting concept….a 3D camera which really works. Unfortunately there was nothing firm about a new Fuji DSLR….hint hint Fuji (I would love a Fuji SuperCCD EXR in a D700)
Olympus
Olympus put up a very good show with an acrobat claiming the airspace several times over the weekend. They also had a lot of gear on show including a few new toys. As a follow up for my earlier post (here) I saw and played with an Olympus PEN E-P1. I have to admit I am very impressed by the build quality and the ease of use.
Maxwell (Lowepro/Tamron)
These guys were also putting up a good show, displaying some great new lines for their new brands (Acme Made) as well as demoing their tried and true products (Lowepro and Velbon). The best part was that they had a model and were lending out the Tamron glass for all to try. I had a quick play with the new 10-24 (which was quite nice…but I would have to have a proper play to comment more on) and a play with my old favourite 90mm Macro as well as the very nice 70-200mm f/2.8.
I finally had a chance to take some photos so we headed down to the South Pylon of the Coathanger, getting there just before they closed, to take a few pictures of the city and the skyline. I have to admit that these were a bit rushed and therefore, are not my best work, but it was great to get out and take some pictures.
All of these were taken using my D300 and my Tamron SP 17-50mm f/2.8.
This camera has caught my attention, essentially Olympus has taken the guts out of their E-620 and shoehorned it into a tiny rangefinder style body. This camera provides the advantages of a big sensor in a camera body that is as small as compact camera. With the availability and compatibility (extended with adaptors) of good lenses this camera is looking very interesting. It’s sleek metal body, retro styling and minimalist design will mean it will have the ‘real’ camera feel.

Personally, I wouldn’t mind playing with one to see if it will replace my trusty Fuji F100fd as my light camera or even as an IR camera….
I was just doing some routine maintenance on the gallery so access was restricted. Apologies for anyone who was trying to access the galleries over the last 12 hours, whilst the gallery was unaccessible.
Full access has been restored.
Here are few pictures from the joint end of semester party for USYD PhotoSoc and UTS Exposure, not my best work but I did promise that they would be up. Most of these are the result of playing with our (USYD PhotoSoc) giant polaroid frame using a couple of SB-600′s and a SB-800 in conjunction with a shoot through umbrella.
I was informed that my work for Alley Cabaret has been published once again. It is not the most prominent publication, but it is very satisfying to see my work being in a paper.
Here is a PDF print out of the relevant page.
I have finally managed to get the combination of a SB-400 and a Su-4 optical trigger tested, unfortunately we have now confirmed that the SB-400 will not work with an optical slave.
