Just to keep things photo related I stumbled across this:
RING FLASH = Catchlight + (COOL/KINDA) – Versatility
PHOTOSNIPER = 600mm lens + 16mb CF card
and many (funnier) others. Not everyone’s cup of tea but I quite enjoyed most of them so I thought I would share.
Thanks http://photogmath.blogspot.com/

The SB-400 is the baby of Nikon’s speedlight line up, designed to be cheap, compact, light and easy to use. Lacking CLS (Creative Lighting System) compatibility, restricted manual controls, zoom and only tilting in one direction, a lot of people overlook this diminutive flash in preference for the large and more versatile SB-600, SB-800 and SB-900, and this is not an entirely bad move to make. BUT the SB-400 should not be written off as a flash that was designed to hit a price point, as it caters for a very important target market, who would really benefit from this flash if they considered it for what is does….more

I just thought I would share another site with good lens reviews that was pointed out to me recently. They have a very comprehensive and consistent style that will help you compare lenses before you buy.
http://www.lenstip.com/
They are however a newer site so there are only a few reviews at the moment, but I do hope that they will get many more reviews in the near future

Many Nikon and Canon users have been troubled by the cost of the Nikkor and Canon 17-55mm f/2.8 lenses. There is no doubt that both these lenses are very nice lenses, but the price tag is steep, and many photographers planning to make the jump to FX (or full frame) in the coming years it seems rather silly to buy a DX or EF-S lens. ENTER the TAMRON SP AF 17-50mm f/2.8 Di II (Model A16)…more

I was just preparing for another shoot (for tomorrow night) this is once again for Alley Cabaret, but this time it is for an actual performance, I have it confirmed unlike last time when it was a last minute call up. There are a number of important things to keep in mind here:
- low light
- action
- audience
This means that I will need a kit that will allow me to be mobile and not disturb the paying audience. Low light and action means I will have to be ready to tackle the giant problem of needing to balance the ambience and the movement to deliver good photos.
To address this situation will be bringing out the big guns:
- Nikon D300 + MB-D10 – my workhorse; provides fast and accurate AF and good high ISO performance
- Fuji S5 Pro – my backup; provides dependable colour accuracy and good high ISO with good AF
- Zoom Nikkor AF-S 24-70mm f/2.8 – my main lens; fast, silent, sharp and bright with a good range
- Zoom Nikkor AF-S 70-200mm f/2.8 VR – my long lens; fast, silent, sharp, bright and has the extra reach for when I cant get close
- Nikkor AF-D 50mm f/1.8 – just in case; sharp and very bright this prime lens is always close at hand
- Tamron SP 17-50mm f/2.8 – for the wide; sharp and bright this lens will allow me to get the wider shots and backs up for the 24-70 in the unlikely case of equipment failure
- Nikon SB-800 – provides extra light and aids AF
- Nikon SB-600 – provides extra light and aids AF
This will allow me to enjoy the convenience of two cameras and give me the insurance of having at least one camera in the unlikely case that I have equipment fail on me. In order to get the gear to the venue I will be carrying it all in my trusty LowePro Vertex 200AW. When I get to the venue I will unpack and set up my cameras and spend most of the night roaming with a camera on either shoulder, heading back to my bag to change lenses as I need them.

With the availability of my preferred memory card becoming tighter all the time, and the recent admition that I do run out of memory cards, often having cards tied up and not bringing enough out when I go shooting I decided it was time to get some more. After a quick search I found my beloved SanDisk Extreme Ducati Compact Flash cards at a local dealer at a VERY competitive price and proceeded to order a few online. I made this order at about 1.30 in the morning, but to my amazement my cards arrived at about 3pm the same day!!!
