Scout Images would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year!!

The year 2008 is coming to a close and the year 2009 beckons, as we look back on this year and reflect on what we have experienced. Personally it has been a huge year for me, it was in 2008 that I made the leap and started down the road of photography as a business and embarked on the road to acquire as many skills as I can from this field. What will 2009 bring me? I cannot be certain but it is an adventure that is beckoning us all. May the new year herald all the good things to you all and be the dawn to another golden period in our lives. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Apologies!!

I regret to announce that I have been having some web hosting issues that are currently being looked into. I have noticed that there have been service dropouts and disruptions including slow response times. Hopefully these will be resolved in the near future.

At this moment I am in email contact with the support team at 3ix (the webhost) and hopefully they can help me track down and resolve the problem. In the mean time I thank you for your patience.

I met a REAL ARTIST!!

I was very lucky to be introduced to someone that I can truly consider to be a real artist according to Ken Rockwell’s Seven Levels of Photographer (original version can be found here, thanks Ken Rockwell!).

I had long heard from my friend of this new friend’s work and was finally introduced to him last night. I was blown away by this work and even more so by his philosophy. He is someone to aspire to. I have a long way to go to even become a fraction as good as my new Pentax weilding friend. It is very rare to come across someone that is so knowledgeable yet someone that is so humble. His pictures speak for themselves, and to top it off he is not a name that anyone would recognise even if I were to reveal it.

This Nikon user has a lot to learn and it will not be the conventional rote learn, but quest to hone the instinct. In the mean time I’ll keep shooting and posting my photos.

Boxing Day, Botanical Gardens – Flowers, Bugs and more…

My friend and I headed out to Mrs Macquarie’s Chair thinking we would catch the start of the Sydney to Hobart yacht race but for some reason the start line had moved this year so we headed for a walk in the Botanical Gardens and took some photos. I was carrying ‘the kitchen sink’ so I had a fair selection of glass. here are some of the photos from the day. Taken with: a Nikon D300 with a Nikon MB-D10 and Nikkor AF-S 70-200mm f/2.8 VR, Sigma 180mm f/3.5 Macro, Nikkor AF-D 50mm f/1.8, Nikkor AF-S 24-70mm f/2.8  and my friends Nikkor AF-S 55-200mm VR (he just bought a brand new Nikon D60 Twin VR kit).

USYD After hours

Being at the mid point of my honours year, crunch time is really steaming forward and the pressure is being felt, so I have actually found myself in at uni even though the university is officially closed. I have discovered that there is a charming quality about the campus when it is empty. So here are a few pics from snapped by my trusty Fuji F100fd.

MERRY CHRISTMAS from Scout Images

I would just like to wish everyone a very MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! Go out there, catch up with friends and family, eat, drink and have fun. Christmas is a time for giving and receiving so I am sure that there will be many of you out there that are going to receive new cameras or camera gear (Nikon, Canon, Olympus, Sony, Fuji, Panasonic or Pentax) so whether you use digital or film, get out there and record the moment!

Remember DIGITAL means your shots are inexpensive, so take those pics!! If you use film then you should still take plenty of shots!

AdSense

As an experiment I have added Google AdSense to the Links and Articles pages. I DO NOT have any say as to what is advertised there so follow only the links that you feel are relevant. I hope I can get feeds for Nikon, Canon, Olympus, Sony, Pentax, Leica and other brands. Below is an example of an AdSense unit.

Lizards!!

Being an honours student associated with the Biology department I accompanied a Phd student on a field trip recently and managed to put my Sigma 180mm Macro to good use as a telephoto prime taking a few good pictures of lizards and other wildlife.
